Background of the Study:
Women’s micro-enterprises have emerged as a cornerstone for promoting family welfare in Yenagoa LGA, Bayelsa State. These small-scale businesses empower women by providing economic opportunities, enhancing household income, and fostering community development (Okafor, 2023). Despite socio-cultural challenges and limited access to capital, women entrepreneurs continue to drive innovation and economic growth in their communities. Their enterprises often operate in informal sectors, contributing significantly to local economies and improving family welfare through increased financial stability (Eze, 2024). This study assesses the role of women’s micro-enterprises in enhancing family welfare, focusing on factors such as business sustainability, income diversification, and social empowerment. Prior research indicates that women-led micro-enterprises can alleviate poverty and stimulate economic participation (Nwosu, 2023). The investigation will consider the challenges these businesses face, including limited access to credit, market fluctuations, and regulatory constraints, and explore potential strategies for improvement. By integrating qualitative and quantitative analyses, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the socio-economic impact of women’s micro-enterprises in Yenagoa, thereby informing policy interventions and support mechanisms (Udo, 2025). The study further examines the role of community networks in supporting women entrepreneurs.
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the significant contributions of women’s micro-enterprises to family welfare in Yenagoa LGA, numerous challenges hinder their effectiveness. Limited access to financial resources, market constraints, and regulatory barriers have adversely affected business sustainability and growth (Okafor, 2023). As a result, many women entrepreneurs struggle to maintain consistent income flows, which impacts overall family welfare and social stability. These challenges highlight a gap between the potential and actual economic contributions of women-led enterprises (Nwosu, 2023). This study seeks to identify the key obstacles and propose practical solutions to bolster the success of women’s micro-enterprises.
